Desoto exemplifies a united and friendly city as the National Civic League gave it the recognition of an “All-American City” which exemplifies the city’s commitment to work as a group to resolve common issues. The award is one of the oldest recognitions in the nation and with this, Desoto certainly deserves a mark which distinguishes it as one of the best cities in which to live.
The city was established in 1847 and was incorporated 1949. The first wave of development was in 1970 when railroads and housing projects were underway. It was then that the population remarkably increased. This thriving city has finally made its way to success. Desoto, TX now has its own Town Center which houses the Public Library, City Hall, Corner Theatre, Amphitheatre and Civic Center. Residents also look forward tor celebrations like the Martin Luther Jr. King Celebration, Daddy and Daughter Valentine Dance, Easter Eggstravaganza and other festivities. With all these programs, no doubt the city has fostered a very deep relationship with its citizens and received the All-American City award.
