Wilmer used to be called Prairie Valley because of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. The name Wilmer came from one of the Railroad’s conductors, A.J. Wilmer. Located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the town has easy access to its neighboring cities affording access to the best shopping centers, museums and other attractions.
One asset that the town has is Union Pacific’s Dallas Intermodal Terminal. Though this is not completely within the town’s limits, the commerce and employment generated from this activity is significant. The shipping facility’s estimated estimated value sits at nearly 70 million US dollars. Despite the terminal’s activities, Wilmer, TX home owners enjoy the town’s atmosphere. Housing projects continue to be built and residents quickly take up the commitment to preserve the town’s scenic beauty.
